About Me
Trusted through experience

I have always been drawn to helping and supporting others and have always been one of those people that friends often come to if something is worrying them – I’d like to hope that I am a natural listener.

I’ve been a Counsellor now for over a decade but before that I worked in the commercial world and the roles that I always thrived in were those connected to people. I’d always had a dream in the back of my mind that one day I might venture into something that ‘satisfied the heart’ in terms of work and I was fortunate to be able to make that dream happen.

After many years of re-training, I became a fully qualified Counsellor and some years later also qualified as a Counselling Supervisor.

Life

Like many, I have experienced my own losses and challenges. I know how it feels when emotions are overwhelming and it feels hard to see the joy in anything. I've had times in my life when I've felt very unsure and even anxious.

These life events along with my counselling training and over a decade as a Counsellor have taught me how to explore these feelings and to grow and change. This learning never stops – I will always be curious about 'me'. Like all of us, I am a work in progress!

I will be curious about you too. It's a privilege to get to know my clients, to build a relationship that offers warmth, understanding and compassion and to witness the changes that emerge in you.

Counselling theories and relationships

There are many different theoretical approaches used within Counselling. I trained as an Integrative Counsellor and have a strong grounding in the person-centred approach yet often draw upon other approaches such as CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and TA (Transactional Analysis). This will always depend on the needs of each individual client. Every client is unique and so is each counselling relationship.

I have a very strong belief that underpinning any counselling theory is the therapeutic relationship between Counsellor and Client. I often say that finding the right Counsellor can be like trying on a pair of shoes – the fit has to be comfortable!

Our relationship is important and I will offer you the conditions needed to help you to look at the things that are troubling you safely...to begin to develop your own inner resources.
I bring my authentic self to each client and am passionate about the work I do.
